The rest of Rosuto’s Sunday passed quietly. The walk to school Monday was cold, a bitter wind seeming to pierce Rosuto’s skin and chill her to the bone. Her walk home was no different. Cold, unpleasant.

She sighed as she approached the well-known cast iron gates. Ally was leaning against the wall, blonde hair down around her face. She smiled at Rosuto and jogged over to meet her. The wind blew her skirt up a bit as she ran, and a pair of very thin pink panties was visible. Or maybe it was a thong. Rosuto couldn’t tell.

“Hey,” Ally said, still smiling. Rosuto had stopped walking. She smiled, a bit nervous. She wasn’t sure if Ally was going to bring their night up or not. She wasn’t sure if Ally was as embarrassed about it as she was.

“Hi,” the brunette whispered. She shivered as another breeze chilled her to her bones. They both stood there a minute, looking at each other.

“It’s freezing,” Ally whispered. “Let’s get going.” Rosuto followed the blonde without a word. The only sound between the two was the whisper of the wind that flew between them. They walked like this to Rosuto’s, then Ally stepped aside and let her pass. Rosuto unlocked the door and opened it, then looked back at her.

“Um, do you wanna come in?” Ally stood there a moment, then nodded and waked inside behind the brunette. Rosuto closed the door and locked it. She looked at Ally, who just stood there for a second.

“Maybe…we should talk,” Ally said. Rosuto nodded. She brushed past the blonde, and the two walked upstairs, hiding in Rosuto’s rainbow closet of a room. They sat down on her bed, Ally picking up a large black fuzzy pillow and hugging it. “Look…about Saturday night…”

“I know, I know, you were just curious. I’m sorry, Ally, I should’ve stopped you-“ Rosuto’s head jerked up to stare at Ally when she heard her laughing. “What are you laughing about?” Ally took a minute to calm herself down, but when she spoke her voice still had a slightly higher pitch to it.

“You! Why the fuck are you sorry?” She laughed again, and said through a large smile, “that was the best fucking head I’ve ever gotten! You apologize for that and I’ll tie you down right now and ride you until you pass out!” Rosuto blushed, and groaned softly as she felt her panties stretching. Ally was still laughing. “C’mon, chill out. Don’t apologize, okay? I had a lot of fun. I’d kill to do it again.”

She smiled, a little secret desire playing on her lips. Rosuto didn’t say anything. She sat there a moment, then shrugged softly.

“Um, I dunno,” she whispered. “Maybe we could. But…aren’t you…disgusted…?” Ally’s face got very serious and she shook her head.

“No Rosuto, no I’m not. You’re not disgusting in anyway. I like you the way you are.” She reached out and took Rosuto’s hand. “You’re my best friend. You’ll always be my best friend.” Rosuto smiled, but behind her eyes her sadness hid. Yes, best friends, forever. And that was all.

She never noticed the sad sparkle in Ally’s eyes.

She was lying in bed that night, staring up at her ceiling. Rosuto sighed. Ally had left after their talk, hours ago. Said she had to get to work.

She reached up and twirled some of her brown hair around her finger. She sighed again. This was going to kill her someday.

So maybe she was making a little progress with Ally. To some people it might seem like an awful lot, but to her, it was only a little. At least Ally wasn’t disgusted by her sexually. Good start.

“But we’re still just friends,” she whispered. She rolled over and hugged a pillow. How could she tell Ally? How would she take it? Was there anyway around telling her? Could she maybe just keep it locked up inside forever?

No. No, that would drive Rosuto insane. She had to tell her. She had to, somehow.

She fell into a restless sleep, mind tumbling over itself in its confusion and desperation.

“My mom’s making me go to dinner with her and my fucking grandmother Friday,” Ally complained later that week. Rosuto was seeing her for the first time this Thursday afternoon since that Monday. Ally was pulling more hours at work and had to run right from school to get to Kink’s on time. “I fucking hate them both.”

“I know,” Rosuto said. The two were sitting on a railing, sipping soda from cups they got from a burger joint behind them. They were past Ally’s house, near Kink’s.

“Seriously. One’s basically a Jesus whore, and the other is just a typical materialistic whore!” She sipped her soda angrily. “I mean, c’mon! Why do I have to go! What am I going to add to any conversation they could possibly have. Maybe they just want something in common, so they drag me along to remember they both hate me.”

She threw her soda, and it landed in a trash can. She grinned at that. Rosuto just shook her head.

“Sorry you can’t get out of it.” Ally shrugged.

“Hey, maybe I can sneak over after. I’ll have a lot of…stress to let out.” She winked, and Rosuto blushed.

“Ally! I’m not a whore! Stop it!” Ally sighed, shaking her head. She reached over and set her hand on the brunette’s thigh.

“I never said you were,” she whispered. “I’d never say that. I’m just saying…I thought you were okay with it?” Rosuto just shrugged and sipped at her soda. “Well, anyway, I’m hoping I can get out by nine. Would Karen care if I just showed up?” Rosuto shook her head. Ally smiled. “Cool.”

She slid off the railing, and Rosuto followed, her red skirt lifting up in the back, leaving a nice shot of her black and orange striped panties. Ally let out an “aww” and Rosuto blushed.

“Damn skirt,” she muttered as she dropped her soda in the trash and the two started walking home. Ally laughed.

“I think some of the guys eating outside were staring at you,” she said. Rosuto blushed more.

“Right. Not on my life.” Ally shrugged.

“They were. People look at you all the time. You’re positively hot.” Rosuto shook her head, and Ally groaned, looking down. Rosuto made it very hard to flirt. She was damn near impossible! “Dammit Rosuto! Take a compliment, you make flirting damn near impossible!”

Rosuto jumped and looked at Ally. “Flirting?” she whispered. Ally just shook her head and kept walking. They were quiet from there on to Ally’s street. She looked down it and sighed.

“I better go. The bitch is probably looking for me. You be careful going home hun. I’ll see you tomorrow night.” Ally waved and walked down the street, towards a house built of brick, identical to all its neighbors. If you didn’t live here, you’d never be able to find someone’s house. The blonde took a quick glance over her shoulder, and noticed Rosuto had begun walking down the street, towards home.

Ally sighed. She had to get it into Rosuto’s head somehow that maybe she wanted to be more than friends. Maybe she wanted more then a fling.

Maybe Ally’s heart did really ache for the same completion every heart ached for.

Aww... poor Ally. She's tried flings and realized that it never fills the hole left from a dysfunctional family. She also feels like this is her only chance with a real person who understands her and won't judge her (too harshly) for the life she'd led to this point. This is a crucial turning point and she's afraid to get hurt in a way she's never experienced before...

or maybe I'm just reading too much into it.
